The Best of Top of the Pops '74

The Best Of Top Of The Pops '74 is a 1974 compilation album released by the Top of the Poppers, who were well-known for their cover-versions of popular songs during the 1970s. Despite negative reviews, the album sold well, and was recently re-released on CD and iTunes. Today some reviewers have warmed up to the album, and it is considered by some to be an interesting time capsule. The album consists of tracks recorded by the Top of the Poppers during the year 1974.

Reception

The album was panned by most critics when it was released. However, Today many critics have re-evaluated the album, calling it "Classic Kitsch". Allmusic reviewer Dave Thompson has praised the album, saying that "If you only want to own one Top of the Pops CD, Top of the Pops: Best of 1974 might well be the best place to start" and that "some decidedly tricky records aren't simply replicated, they are occasionally improved".
